“The Sellaronda circuit, an aperitif at Rifugio Comici, and lunch on Seceda. Unforgettable slopes and flavours.”
We finally leave the city behind and head for Val Gardena, something I’ve been dreaming of for years. We arrive in the evening at Hotel Antares, right in the centre, and park in the covered garage. Next door, Olga Ski Rent takes care of our gear. Two perfectly mixed spritzes at the bar, then a traditional dinner, schlutzkrapfen, venison goulash, and apple strudel. An ideal start.
Sunshine greets us, perfect timing for our Sellaronda. The Ciampinoi lift is close to the hotel, and soon we’re skiing our way to Alta Badia. We follow towards Arabba with the Marmolada in sight, then climb again through seamless lifts and breathtaking terrain. At Belvedere in Canazei, Sassolungo welcomes us. We end the day with an aperitif at Rifugio Comici, then head back to the hotel, where we relax in the outdoor sauna.
After a generous breakfast with a view, we head to Seceda. We ski the Sasslong, then take the underground train to reach more wide, sunlit runs. Gentle slopes, scenic huts, and the striking Odle all around. Lunch at Sofie Hütte is a highlight: refined dishes with views of Sassolungo. We leave Val Gardena with the taste of local flavours and the beauty of its peaks still with us.
Bring equipment suited to your level, or hire everything conveniently next to the hotel.
Drink tap water: it’s excellent. Fill your bottle before heading out or use it in your room for tea.
Avoid the Sellaronda in strong winds or poor visibility. Start early to complete the loop comfortably by mid-afternoon.
