Hunting the Best Black Slopes in Madonna di Campiglio

Edited by Lorenzo B.

Highlights

“For expert skiers like us, nothing beats a challenging black run, and Madonna di Campiglio delivers. The gradients here are thrilling, sometimes reaching 70%! Pancugolo, Canalone Miramonti, and Spinale Direttissima never fail to satisfy.”

Day 1

From the Amazzonia to the 3-Tre

Day 1

From the Amazzonia to the 3-Tre

Both my girlfriend and I are avid skiing and for us black runs are the goal. That’s why we start very early, leave the car at Ambiez residence and take the Fortini lift up to Pradalago. First run, we ski down the beautiful, sun-drenched Amazzonia. Changing gradients, just the right width and a length to take your breath away. But today’s goal? 100 turns on the Canalone Miramonti, the legendary slope where the 3-Tre Slalom World Cup is held.

Day 2

Vertical skiing

Day 2

Vertical skiing

Today we start with the Pancugolo, my new favourite black run with 69% gradients and Brenta views. After exploring a few slopes, we cross to the other side for the Spinale Direttissima and the legendary Schumacher Streif wall, an unmissable thrill! Evening ends with a sports massage and a well-earned aperitif.

Day 3

The Pinzolo Ski Area

Day 3

The Pinzolo Ski Area

Skiing among the panoramic slopes of Skiarea Dolomiti is pure magic, it feels like we could almost touch the mountains. At the top of the Doss cable car, the Tulot slope awaits us with gradients reaching 64%. The lift is quiet, so we enjoy a few thrilling runs almost to ourselves. It’s our anniversary today, so back at the residence we celebrate with a private evening by the pool: soft lights, a fruit buffet, and a bottle of local bubbles to toast.

Day 4

Exploring Folgarida and Marilleva

Day 4

Exploring Folgarida and Marilleva

We’re already at the end of this fantastic holiday, but we’re making the most of every last minute. After checking out, we take the Fortini cable car over to Folgarida and Marilleva for one final fix of black runs, the ones in Folgarida and Marilleva, plus the Spolverino. Back home tonight, we’ll give scores: top marks for Ambiez and for the ski area. I already know, we’ll be back for a few more weekends.

Responsible tourism

Did you know there are two gondola lifts right in front of Ambiez? That way you don’t have to drive, you save on gas and don’t pollute!

Weather and recommendations

Drive carefully, as the roads may be icy, and remember to carry snow chains or snow tyres, which are mandatory in winter.
