“The Grosté cable car right at our doorstep, ski lessons for the kid, great slopes and relaxation for the grown-ups. What more could you want?”
Our skiing holiday is our family treat. We’ve been coming to Ambiez for two years now with our children Giulio and Sofia, because it offers absolutely everything, even an on-site ski instructor! As soon as we arrive, we book the group lessons for the children and, using the school’s free transfer service, head straight to the rental shop to pick up our equipment.
We wake up slowly, while my husband Gianni is already out on the slopes. The children hop on the minibus right outside the residence so convenient! I head out too and enjoy a few lovely runs with Gianni. We pick up the kids, squeeze in a few final runs, then ski almost all the way back to the residence, where we relax with a snack by the bonfire so nice to have the Grosté slopes just a few meters from the hotel.
We start on our skis and meet the instructors at the top of Pradalago at 9:00 early morning skiing on perfectly groomed slopes is the best. Sofia agrees: it feels so smooth! Today, though, we head back to the flat for lunch Giulio’s feeling the cold and we need to grab an extra layer. A toasted sandwich and some juice at the Ambiez bar warm us up, and we’re ready to go back on the slopes together until sunset!
It’s snowing today, but the children head off anyway to their ski lessons, while I take it easy and head out once the visibility improves. In the afternoon, we all enjoy the pool: the kids have fun on the inflatables under Gianni’s watchful eye, while I treat myself to a relaxing spa session to warm up. We’re quite tired tonight, so we order takeaway, play a game of UNO, and go to sleep early ready for another morning on the slopes tomorrow.
After the snowfall, a magical day arrives. Today is the end-of-skicourse race: how exciting! In the afternoon, there’s the prize-giving ceremony with medals and certificates for everyone. Making the most of the fresh snow, we spend some time playing outside: bobsleighing, making snowmen and having snowball fights with our new ski buddies.
Our holiday has come to an end so to make sure we don’t miss out on anything, today we treat ourself to a super breakfast at the residence, with cakes, sandwiches, pancakes, cappuccinos and hot chocolate. We say goodbye to the snow and to Ambiez, which remains our best friend for the ski holiday!
Bring toys you use at the beach (like buckle and shovel) to play in the snow. Thin wool gloves to wear underneath if it’s cold and snacks to hide in your pockets to recharge on the lifts.
Two ski lifts and the bus stop are right in front of Ambiez, so there’s no need to drive, saving fuel and helping reduce pollution.
Remember the wind can make it feel much colder. Drive carefully, as roads may be icy, especially in the early morning or evening.
