“The weekly market, the wonderful Seceda mountain huts and the hand carved wood crafts.”
We take the cable car up to Col Raiser and are instantly amazed, Sassolungo, green meadows, wildflowers, and tiny huts everywhere. For the kids, it feels like stepping into Heidi’s world. At Lech Sant, we play with the sheep and enjoy a platter of local products with Kaiserschmarren. Everything tastes incredible. We walk back down and settle into our cosy apartment.
After a relaxed breakfast at Rigais, we wander through the village toward Vallunga. Along the way, farmhouses and wooden barns tell the story of local life, beautifully cared for in every detail. At the Valin dairy, we taste fresh yoghurt with wild berries, gone in seconds! We also pick up cheese and butter for dinner back at the apartment!
A gentle day in the village, starting with a visit to a craftsman’s workshop. The scent of pine fills the air as he carves wood by hand. We choose a nativity figurine and a wooden spoon with a carved heart, perfect to stir fruit jams. The afternoon is all about the playground, followed by a swim to end the day.
A slow breakfast with rye bread, butter, and jam, then off to the weekly market. We stroll between stalls full of colours and stories. I find a wool jacket, the kids choose checked shirts, and we discover a beautiful wooden toy car, simple, timeless. We leave Val Gardena with full hearts and promise to return soon.
Comfortable walking clothe and some cash, not all local producers accept cards.
Support local artisans and producers: it’s good for the valley, and even better for your table.
Dress in layers and wear sturdy shoes, summer can still bring wind and sudden rain in the mountains.
