“The Christmas markets in Selva and Ortisei, skiing in the Piz Seteur/Comici area, and the Raschötz toboggan run.”
It’s our first Christmas in the mountains, and Val Gardena feels instantly special. As we arrive, the children’s eyes light up, snowy villages, twinkling lights, festive decorations everywhere. We head straight to the Christmas market in Selva, where wooden stalls offer local treats. We sip warm apple juice while the kids play on Santa’s sleigh, pure magic.
Everyone’s excited for the slopes. We take the free ski shuttle to Plan de Gralba and ride up with heated seats to Piz Seteur. The Comici area is perfect, snow tunnels, fun slopes, and easy runs for the kids. After hot chocolate at a mountain hut, we head back and cook Spätzle in the apartment before curling up under warm duvets.
We wake up to falling snow, soft, silent, magical. After a relaxed breakfast, we stay lower where visibility is better and ski the Biancaneve lifts just minutes away. The kids tire early, so we head back, change, and spend the afternoon in the pool. Dinner is easy and comforting with takeaway from Rigais!
Before leaving, we make the most of our last day. In Ortisei, we take the Raschötz lift and enjoy a fun 3 km toboggan run, laughter all the way down. Back in the village, the Christmas market is full of charm. We pick up decorations, honey, and wool socks. It feels like Christmas has come early this year!
Bring ski gear and après-ski clothes, plus plenty of spare outfits for the kids and helmets for everyone.
Walk or use the free ski bus included with your stay, it’s the easiest way to get around without a car.
Dress in layers and check the forecast, December days are short, and temperatures can drop quickly.
