History of the Residencehotels Group

Our history

Residencehotels is a family business, not just because it belongs to a single family group, but because you can really feel that friendly and intimate atmosphere. Many of our staff members have been with us for 20, 25, even 30 years. It all began with a glance towards the Sella Group and a promise: since then, we’ve stayed.

Our origins: rebuilding after the war

In the immediate post-war period, brothers Alessandro and Fabio Conci, both engineers, founded a construction company in Trento – Alessandro e Fabio Conci Costruzioni – which came to employ 500 workers. They rebuilt houses, bridges, roads and hydroelectric power stations, becoming key players in the construction boom of the 1950s and 1960s.

The mountains: a passion that became a vision

Fabio was an avid skier and president of the Italian Winter Sports Federation from 1964 to 1970. He was the one who brought the Alpine Ski World Championships to Val Gardena in 1970. There, gazing at the Sella Group, he promised himself to remain part of this landscape forever: that promise would later become a business venture.

The Residencehotels are born

Between 1963 and 1974, Fabio built the first holiday apartments in Madonna di Campiglio, Selva di Val Gardena and San Martino di Castrozza, inspired by a simple yet forward-thinking idea: “Holidays in your home away from home.” At a time when mountains were still considered a privileged destination, he believed they should be accessible to many. His vision was to offer families the comfort and freedom of their own space in the heart of the Alps. By 1974 tourism in the Dolomites continued to grow and so did his experience in the field: it was time for Fabio to take the next step. He opened the first hotel of the group: the four-star Antares Hotel in Selva Gardena, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the company’s history.

A family business, then and now

Since 1987, Lorenzo Conci, Fabio’s son, has worked alongside his father at the helm of the group, taking over as CEO in 2003 and carrying on the family legacy together with his siblings. In the 1990s, new properties were added and a long period of renovation began: significant investments were made to bring the original properties up to date. Constant modernization over the years has transformed every property of the group and continues to this day. This attention to detail is something that guests, who now come from all over the world, quickly recognise and appreciate. Today, Residencehotels employs over 100 staff members — some of whom have been with the company for 20, 25 or 30 years — and welcomes guests to the Dolomites with the warmth, expertise and love for the mountains that have always been at the heart of this family, in the very same landscapes that Fabio never wanted to leave.
