Highlights
“I never love starting the ride with a downhill… the way back is usually uphill! But this time it’s worth it. We got bikes at 5 Laghi rent and enjoyed the ride. Not feeling super fit? An e-bike helps, or you can plan your return with the bike bus.”
Car is packed, bikes on the roof, and off we go for a few days of cycling with friends. At Ambiez, the garage is 2.10 m high, so we unload the bikes out and store them in the bike room. Those of us without a bike rent one from Noleggio 5 Laghi, which has an excellent selection. In the evening, we enjoy a spritz at the residence bar, then dinner with local cheeses, cured meats, and beer before heading to bed, we want to be on the saddle first thing in the morning!
Today we’re tackling a lovely trail up to Lake Valagola: the start is a slightly technical descent, especially on the dirt track leading towards Sant’Antonio di Mavignola, but Val Brenta is incredible. Mandatory stop at Pra de la Casa snack point for a speck sandwich. From there, fit riders, can climb to Malga Movlina and then enjoy the descent towards Bregn de l’Ors and Giustino.
A day for relaxation takes us to Malga Ritorto. From Ambiez, we follow the main road, turn right toward Patascoss, climb the winding way through the woods, and arrive at the Malga. The view is picture-perfect, you almost feel like you could touch the mountains! After lunch, those who feel like it continue toward Fratè on a dirt track, then climb back to Campiglio via the town centre.
From Ambiez, we start riding downhill along the old road, part of which is unpaved. We continue along Val Rendena, skirting the Sarca River. For those up for a challenge, we climb through the woods to Passo Daone (640 m ascent). We meet up in Tione, stop for a sweet treat at Rubinelli’s bakery, and take the bike shuttle back home. Remember to change buses in Carisolo, it’s best to book in advance!
We already miss biking in the woods, the effort of the climbs, the joy of reaching the goal… but also the views, the breaks at the mountain huts to recharge our batteries and then the beer, which tastes even better in good company. Today we head home, tired but happy!
Bring a helmet, energy bars, and GPS, download the routes before you go . No worries about laundry: there’s a washing machine and tumble dryer.
Skip plastic bottles and refill at fountains. In the park, follow the signs, stay on marked paths, and respect nature while enjoying the trails.
Always dress in layers. You’ll encounter climbs, shady woods, and sudden rain. In mid-season, temperatures can even drop to freezing.
