“The Sellaronda is well worth the trip: covering 40 km of slopes in a day is challenging, but what a view!”
Setting off as a group is always stressful: the kids forget a hundred things, my wife gets stressed out, and I’d rather stay home. But arriving at Aritz is different. After a lovely warm snack (free of charge), my wife and I take some alone time in the spa. Quiet, new and refined: we truly enjoy an hour of relaxation. Finally, we pick up the Dolomiti Superski pass we bought online at reception, so we’re all set for tomorrow morning.
Today we have breakfast while it’s still dark and take the new lift up to the Sellaronda: 40 km of slopes await us, but it’s well worth it. If you like fast pace and red runs, it’s best to do it clockwise (orange). If, on the other hand, you want to take it easy and enjoy the scenery, it’s better to go anti-clockwise (green). Either way, set off before 9 am to enjoy the circuit at a leisurely pace, as it takes about 6 hours.
Following the advice of the girls at reception, we drive to the San Pellegrino ski area to ski at 1,900 metres. The snow is spectacular: it crunches under your skis and grips when you carve. This is where the women’s national ski team trains on the black run LaVolata – not to be missed. Excellent lunch at Baita San Pellegrino and, if you use the Aritz voucher, you’ll even get a small discount. In the evening, the sunset over the pink peaks doesn’t disappoint!
It’s already our last day of skiing, so we check out and leave the car in the car parks outside. Today we’re enjoying our favourite slopes, the sunshine and a few breaks at the mountain hut. We head down early in the afternoon and hit the road to drive home: I’m already feeling a bit nostalgic, but mostly recharged and happy!
Layers depending on the cold and wind, a backpack with hot tea and snacks, and don’t forget SPF 50+ sun cream. Note: helmets are compulsory!
You don’t need a car here: you’re 200 metres from the Col Rodella cable car and there are plenty of restaurants nearby.
Plan each day carefully and time your schedule so you don’t miss the last cable car. Buy your ski pass 3 days in advance and get a discount!
