“Sellaronda Bike Day: when the Dolomite passes are closed to cars and open only to cyclists. A unique experience, twice a year.”
We load the bikes early and drive to Val di Fassa. Tomorrow is Sellaronda Bike Day, so we want a relaxed evening. Residence Contrin is a great base: clean, quiet, and in a great position to reach the main passes. We cook a simple pasta dinner and get everything ready. Early night before the big ride.
From 8:30 to 16:00, the Sella, Pordoi, Campolongo, and Gardena passes are closed to cars, you’ll find only bikes! The atmosphere is amazing, with thousands of cyclists sharing the road. We ride anti-clockwise for a smoother flow. Climbing pass after pass without traffic is something special. Great effort, incredible views.
Today we leave the bikes in the garage and drive to Passo Fedaia to see the Marmolada. Even in summer, the glacier is impressive. We hike up towards Rifugio Padon for a closer look.. In the afternoon, we relax at Dolaondes: pool and quiet time after two active days.
It’s the last day, but we still want to ride. We follow the cycle path from Val di Fassa to Molina di Fiemme: almost 50 km along the Avisio river, through villages and green landscapes. We stop for local speck (cured smoked meat) at Carpano on the way. A perfect, easy ride to finish the trip.
Bike repair kit, small backpack, water, and energy snacks.
Respect nature and stay on marked routes, these landscapes are fragile and unique.
Check weather and wind before riding. Mountain passes are above 1,800 m, temperatures can drop quickly.
